On April 25 and 26, the XIX meeting of the RUENA network (Network on the efficient use of nitrogen in agriculture) was held. The event, coordinated by Ramón Isla (CITA), brought together about seventy researchers from all over Spain and was held at the CIHEAM Zaragoza facilities. The technical visit of the meeting took place in Ejea de los Caballeros. It has been recently covered by the Aragón Televisión program Tempero. You can see the video here:
The visit began at the Slurry Management Center of Ejea de los Caballeros. Network members were hosted by the person in charge of the Center, Azucena Crespo. Slurry is used as a fertilizer for a variety of crops. Animal farms and crop growers are connected by the Center to ensure nutrient circularity, minimizing losses and emissions and optimizing crop fertilization. The Center collects slurry from 85 farms in the region and serves as many farmers with a “farm to field” approach. Subsequently, a pig farm was visited where the activities of the LIFE CLINMED-Farm project are bein carried out. The project seeks to obtain climate-neutral livestock farms. Lola Quílez, from CITA, presented the project activities and their importance in the context of climate change.
